Digital Camera: Understanding Meters

Digital cameras are usually calibrated to a specific color. All subjects and scenery are exposed as middle gray or average.

If all photos had the same lighting the meter would expose all objects equally. However, there is no way to set the meter so it varies with the lighting so it will naturally make light objects too dark and dark objects too light to equalize all.

To compensate for these variables in meter digital cameras now have advanced systems for metering for multiple metering points and computing analysis. The more advanced the system, the more expensive the digital camera.
