Digital Camera: How The Camera Adjusts

Your digital camera achieves white balance by paying attention to all the white and neutral colors in the scene. I then makes them appear neutral causing colors to be rendered accurately no matter what the light source is, whether indoor or natural outdoor lighting. This can be controlled automatically or manually.

Sometimes you may be surprised when you see the actual photograph as the camera may have compensated too much. Even though the colors are accurate the warm glow that makes the scene special may simply be accurate colors without that warm feeling to the photo.

While it's best to make adjustments in white balance as you are shooting the photos, it is possible to adjust the color on the computer. This is most easily done if your digital camera allows RAW images.
