Digital
Camera: Easy Flash Options
Option 1: A digital camera
flash is typically used when there is too much darkness or too much
distance from the subject. The flash is usually aimed right at the
subject.
Option 2: Fill flash
is another use of your flash. This is when flash is used on a sunny
day. Most people think flash is only used when there is not enough
light and seldom turn on their built in flash so it works no matter
how light the surroundings are.
What happens is on a
sunny day, there are often too many sharp shadows in the picture
unless flash is used. The flash helps take away some of those harsh
shadows, "filling" them with light. Since you're using
a digital camera you can't go wrong by giving it a try. After taking
the photo, check it in your LCD monitor. If you
don't like what you see, take the shot again without the flash.
Option 3: Using a flash
indoors will often produce a harsh result. Use your built-in flash
to avoid this by adding some other light in the background. This
should be more like an ambient glow, not something bright. Your
camera's manual should tell you how to do this. This technique will
immediately eliminate the harshness.
Option 4: With an accessory
flash use a bounce flash. Point the flash at a white surface such
as a ceiling or wall - or even an aluminum type reflector. This
is a fabulous technique to use when photographing people and for
indoor shots as it spreads the light and softens edges.
There are all sorts of
easy flash solutions to improve the quality of your digital
camera photos.
