Digital Camera: Depth Of Field

Depth of field when using your digital camera is the term that refers to the range of sharpness in an image from objects farthest back in a photograph to closest up. This is the feature that allows you to have sharp focus on a tree or other object in the foreground as well as on buildings in the background.

There are four influences on field of depth:

  1. f/stop
  2. Distance
  3. Size of print
  4. Focal length

Digital cameras can get extremely sharp focus and depth of field is increased based on the quality of the camera.
