Digital
Camera: Controlling Depth Of Field
There are a
few ways to control depth of field with a digital
camera. They are:
f/stop: small
lens openings increase depth of field while large apertures decrease
it
Distance: Depth
of field increases the further away you are and becomes shallower
when you are closer. This create problems for close-up
photography.
Size of print:
Small print appears to have more depth of field since larger print
shows differences in sharpness which indicates depth of field decreases.
Focal length:
Wide angle focal lengths produce greater depth of field while telephoto
focal lengths reduce depth of field. When you desire an entire scene
to be sharp use the wide angle. For producing one sharp image with
everything else out of focus, use the telephoto accessory
lens.
Digital camera
accessories make it simple to create the depth of field you prefer
in any given photo.
