Digital Camera: Buffer And Processing

The digital camera buffer is internal and stores the image until the camera downloads it to the memory card. Processing determines the speed at which this action take place. This is where the expression "frames per second" (fps) comes into play.

Have you been taking lots of shots rapidly in a row before and suddenly your camera stops? With small digital cameras 6-10 photos can be taken in rapid succession. Then the camera needs time to transfer the images from the buffer to the memory card before you can continue.

Many advance SLR digital cameras have larger, faster buffers. Depending on your photography goals, you may wish to invest in one of these digital cameras.
