Idea:
Balance
Take
a look at your latest photos. Do the subjects of the photo
appear
balanced with the other objects in the photograph?
Maybe
you have centered your subject as a result of thinking that is the
goal since they are the main focus of the picture. In good design
balance is achieved by taking into account all surroundings of a
main subject.
When
balance is achieved the viewer's eyes will naturally go to the subject
of your photograph. A nuance on a photography idea might be to surprise
the viewers by having their eyes go to an unexpected part of the
photograph versus straight to the person or subject they expect.
For
instance, in an outdoor picture you might typically take it with
the camera at eye level with the people and a beautiful landscape
behind the people. In this case the sky would have equal spacing
as the ground. But remember balance doesn't always mean all things
are placed equally symmetrically.
Try
standing below the main people so that they are closer up than usual
and the sky takes more of the space than expected. This technique
produces a beautiful and fun result - a backdrop that could not
completely be accomplished artificially.
Play
around with balance in your photography and see what creative surges
you get from breaking away from your "routine" placement
of subjects.
