Digital Camera: AF Sensor Location

Autofocus in digital cameras is affected by where the AF sensors are located. When several sensors are in a group and located in the image area it is easier to target the focus on the intended subject in the overall scene.

Advanced digital cameras may also have variable sensing so every possible subject in the entire scene can be detected. When using less expensive cameras, the photography will have to do more work to help the camera find the subject to focus on. This is done by moving the camera slightly so the subject is more easily found by the sensor.
